We received amazing service from the Team at Davis! The service manager Jonathon was quick to respond to our issue and got us into their schedule in just a couple days. The installers Daniel and Joseph worked quickly and quietly, and left our space cleaner than they found it. Very happy with the experience.
I am happy to have selected Davis for my heating, plumbing, and air conditioning at Smith Mountain Lake. So far, Davis has done three jobs for me, and I am satisfied with the results and pricing. In particular, Daniel and Isaac did a great job installing a new HVAC for me. They are hardworking, knowledgeable, and very efficient as a team. Again, I am glad to have access to Davis in my area and would select them again with 100% confidence. Update: More great work from Davis. Michael solved a difficult plumbing issue by re-routing the outdated pipes in my old lake cottage, a complicated job that saved me from having to re-plomb the whole house. Again, 100% happy and confident with Davis' experts!
After calling for HVAC service (for no A/C) for our recently acquired 25 year old system, we received a quick response from Davis. Our first tech Chris came out, trouble shot the no A/C issue, and repaired the improperly wired thermostat right away. He gave us an estimate on the needs of the current system that he saw but suggested a consultation for a complete review as it was a lot to invest in an older system. A few days later, Mike came out and offered multiple options to update our two systems, including financing opportunities (I need to emphasize there was never any pressure offering "today only" pricing, been through that before!). We were fortunate, the systems we chose to upgrade with, Davis had in stock (one dual fuel & one heat pump) and within a week crews were available to install.
Fast forward 5 days; the original plan was for a two day install, one for each floor. The day before day one install, Davis staff called and asked if they could do both units in one day? Worked for us! The install crew(s) that arrived were on time as scheduled, all were very polite, each one made sure they introduced themselves, and they focused on their work and finished all the work within their scheduled 8 hours. I cannot praise them enough, no mess or any debris left behind, they even vacuumed the carpet in the bedroom where the attic access is.
We are happy with Davis services and are pleased to recommend them to others!
Sam and devin were awesome! Explained in detail and advised the best options. Even came back the same day to do minor adjustment as my preference! Would recommend to anyone.
Damian, Devan, and Michael replaced our 10-year-old water heater with a new Navien tankless unit and installed a Water Right Impression Plus water softener. Our hard water was taking a toll on our faucets and appliances, so they installed a new kitchen faucet and a fridge water line at no charge for labor. Highly professional and detail oriented. They were also very clear in explaining the new equipment and regular maintenance. It’s great to contract with such skilled and personable plumbers.

What Are Electrical Inspections?

Electrical inspections examine the health of your home’s electrical systems. During these visits, our electricians check every part of your electrical network. This includes your main service panel, outlets, and switches. We look for safety risks, code violations, and efficiency issues that might be hiding in your walls.

Think of an electrical inspection as a physical for your home’s nervous system. Just like you go to the doctor for regular checkups, your electricity needs regular professional attention. Our electricians don’t just look at what’s visible; they test connections, measure voltage, and assess the entire system’s condition using specialized tools and years of field experience.

Why Electrical Inspections Matter for Your Home

  • They detect fire hazards before they ignite.
  • They stop electrical shocks that could harm your family.
  • They identify energy waste that increases your bills.
  • They help extend the life of your appliances and fixtures.
  • They keep your home in compliance with electrical codes.
  • They catch outdated wiring that can’t handle modern demands.
  • They document your home’s electrical condition for insurance or real estate purposes.

Electrical Safety Checklist: What We Inspect

Our thorough inspections cover every aspect of your home’s electrical system. Here’s what you can expect us to check during your electrical safety inspection in Roanoke, VA:

  • Main electrical panel for loose connections and proper grounding.
  • Circuit breakers for signs of overheating or frequent tripping.
  • Outlet and switch function throughout your home.
  • GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, and outdoor areas.
  • Light fixtures and ceiling fans for secure mounting.
  • Smoke detectors for proper placement and function.
  • Electrical wiring for signs of pest damage or deterioration.
  • Proper wire gauge for each circuit’s load.
  • Adequate lighting in key areas like stairs and entryways.
  • Signs of water damage near electrical components.
  • Potential hazards from amateur electrical work or renovations.
  • Indicators of mold or moisture issues affecting electrical systems.

Home vs. Building Electrical Inspections

Your home electrician looks for different things than a building inspector. A residential electrical inspection focuses on daily safety and functionality. We check how your switches operate, if your outlets deliver the right power, and if your lighting works correctly. We also pay special attention to areas where you and your family spend time, like bedrooms, the kitchen, and your living room.

Building inspectors, on the other hand, verify code compliance. They check if construction meets minimum safety standards and their reports satisfy legal requirements but miss many issues that impact the safety you have at home. So make sure you work with electricians who are experts at home inspections.

The building inspector gives you a pass/fail grade. We give you peace of mind and a plan for improvement and make sure that electricity runs safely through every inch of your walls.

Preparing Your Home for an Electrical Inspection

You can make your electrical inspection more effective with a few simple steps. Clear access to your electrical panel, outlets, and switches. Move furniture, storage boxes, and other items that block these areas. Your electrician needs room to work safely and efficiently.

You can also make a list of any electrical issues you’ve noticed. Maybe lights flicker in the bathtub area, or a switch feels warm to the touch. Perhaps your circuit breaker trips whenever you use certain appliances. These details help an electrician target problem areas during the inspection.

Also, gather any documentation about previous electrical work. Renovation plans, permits, or notes from other electricians provide valuable context. The more information you share, the more thorough your inspection will be. Your observations about your home’s electrical performance help us spot patterns and solve problems more quickly.
