See What Our Customers Are Saying!
We received amazing service from the Team at Davis! The service manager Jonathon was quick to respond to our issue and got us into their schedule in just a couple days. The installers Daniel and Joseph worked quickly and quietly, and left our space cleaner than they found it. Very happy with the experience.
I am happy to have selected Davis for my heating, plumbing, and air conditioning at Smith Mountain Lake. So far, Davis has done three jobs for me, and I am satisfied with the results and pricing. In particular, Daniel and Isaac did a great job installing a new HVAC for me. They are hardworking, knowledgeable, and very efficient as a team. Again, I am glad to have access to Davis in my area and would select them again with 100% confidence. Update: More great work from Davis. Michael solved a difficult plumbing issue by re-routing the outdated pipes in my old lake cottage, a complicated job that saved me from having to re-plomb the whole house. Again, 100% happy and confident with Davis' experts!
After calling for HVAC service (for no A/C) for our recently acquired 25 year old system, we received a quick response from Davis. Our first tech Chris came out, trouble shot the no A/C issue, and repaired the improperly wired thermostat right away. He gave us an estimate on the needs of the current system that he saw but suggested a consultation for a complete review as it was a lot to invest in an older system. A few days later, Mike came out and offered multiple options to update our two systems, including financing opportunities (I need to emphasize there was never any pressure offering "today only" pricing, been through that before!). We were fortunate, the systems we chose to upgrade with, Davis had in stock (one dual fuel & one heat pump) and within a week crews were available to install.
Fast forward 5 days; the original plan was for a two day install, one for each floor. The day before day one install, Davis staff called and asked if they could do both units in one day? Worked for us! The install crew(s) that arrived were on time as scheduled, all were very polite, each one made sure they introduced themselves, and they focused on their work and finished all the work within their scheduled 8 hours. I cannot praise them enough, no mess or any debris left behind, they even vacuumed the carpet in the bedroom where the attic access is.
We are happy with Davis services and are pleased to recommend them to others!
Sam and devin were awesome! Explained in detail and advised the best options. Even came back the same day to do minor adjustment as my preference! Would recommend to anyone.
Damian, Devan, and Michael replaced our 10-year-old water heater with a new Navien tankless unit and installed a Water Right Impression Plus water softener. Our hard water was taking a toll on our faucets and appliances, so they installed a new kitchen faucet and a fridge water line at no charge for labor. Highly professional and detail oriented. They were also very clear in explaining the new equipment and regular maintenance. It’s great to contract with such skilled and personable plumbers.

How Do Heat Pumps Work? What Are the Advantages?

Unlike furnaces and air conditioners that generate temperature-controlled air, heat pumps work differently. They absorb heat from already existing air and then transfer it inside your home. They’re more efficient than traditional units because they work with the surrounding air and use less energy.

In the winter, your heat pump will remove heat from the outside air and disperse it through your home. During the summer, it will remove heat from inside your home and push it outside.

Heat pumps are beneficial because they:

  • Provide both heating and cooling. Simply switch between “heating” and “cooling” mode through the seasons.
  • Are more energy-efficient and eco-friendly.
  • Provide better long-term savings compared to traditional units.
  • Offer a longer lifespan than traditional furnaces and air conditioners.

Different Types of Heat Pumps

At Davis, we offer service for a variety of heat pump systems to meet your needs. Here’s a quick breakdown of the two most common types:

  • Air-Source Heat Pumps: An air-source heat pump extracts heat energy from outside air and transfers it into your home while in heating mode. In the summer, they reverse the process, acting like an air conditioner by pulling heat out of your home and releasing it outside. Air-source heat pumps are a cost-effective option for many climates.
  • Ground Source Heat Pumps (Geothermal Heat Pumps): A ground source heat pump taps into the earth’s constant underground temperature. In heating mode, they circulate a water-based solution through a network of pipes buried in the ground, extracting heat energy from the earth and transferring it to your home. In the summer, the system works in reverse, pulling heat from your home and depositing it back into the ground. Geothermal heat pumps are highly efficient and can significantly reduce your heating and cooling costs.

Warning Signs That Your Heat Pump Needs Service

If you already own a heat pump and it’s acting out of the ordinary, we’ll respond quickly and repair your unit. Some red flags to look for with heat pumps include:

  • Reduced airflow
  • Failure to switch modes
  • Short system cycles
  • Visible ice on the unit
  • Unusually high energy bills
  • Unusual smells and noises coming from the unit

If you notice any of the above with your heat pump, contact us for emergency heating repairs. When it comes to heat pumps and other HVAC equipment, time is of the essence. You don’t want to delay having a minor problem repaired because it’s likely to become a major, more expensive one down the road.

We also specialize in heating system maintenance. Because there are a number of components and modes that make up your heat pump, it’s important to have your unit inspected annually.
