Southside Virginia is known for moderate to hard water, which causes calcium and magnesium to settle as “scale” at the bottom of your tank. This sediment acts as a barrier, forcing your burner or heating element to work longer, which significantly increases your monthly energy bill and can lead to the “popping” or “rumbling” sounds common in local units.
